Fire Note Says: No gimmicks - just two guys making quality music!
Album Review:
Cosmos is the new collaboration from our king of side projects Robert Pollard and indie rock icon, Richard Davies (The Moles, Cardinal). Jar Of Jam Ton Of Bricks finds Pollard and Davies blending their styles and emerging with a solid straight forward rock record that fluctuates between simple acoustic numbers and a full band jam with the help of David Minehan (The Neighborhoods) and Malcom Travis (Human Sexual Response, Sugar).
Cosmos stands out in the Pollard collection, because on most of these joint efforts he takes complete control of the vocal duties but on Jar Of Jam Ton Of Bricks, Davies can not only be heard in the background but takes the lead on four of the 12 vocal tracks. This switch can play with the momentum a bit at times, but when you are dealing with the talents of this duo, each song holds its own and with the record just under 35 minutes long, there is not much filler.
So far, Pollard's more recent excursions outside his own namesake have flourished into more recordings and hopefully Cosmos lives again because letting these two work together can only produce a top grade product!
