Fire Note Says: NYC band might surprise you!

Album Review:
I can almost guarantee that you won't be disappointed checking out NYC's Steve Shiffman & The Land Of No's self-titled record when it releases next week. Along with Shiffman, the group is made up of members from notable bands such as The Figgs and Holy Ghost, while collectively putting their best rock/country blended foot forward, that results in a very likable twelve tracks. What makes Steve Shiffman & The Land Of No stand out is their ability to step back n forth from a country bluesy ballad like "Ready For You Now", complete with slide guitar, and then still rock out on the two minute long "This Second", that features a distorted vocal. This may seem unbalanced but Steve Shiffman & The Land Of No have a swagger to their tunes that make the transitions work because on the more pop rocker "Death In The Newsgroup" you get the same confident attitude that you get on the slow strummed "Hollow Town". The record was mixed by Bryce Goggin (Pavement, Lemonheads) and mastered by Wharton Tiers (Sonic Youth, Nick Cave), while being the debut release on the Chicago/Portland based indie label Tiny Beast, which was founded by Todd Dahlhoff (Little Joy, Dead Trees) and his brother Tory. Steve Shiffman & The Land Of No is a record that you will enjoy every time you take it for a ride and although no tracks stand out immediately, it has a cockiness to it that not only will translate great live but it is a record that is hard to pull out of the shuffle!
