Fire Drill Review:
After the fractured song structures found on Marnie's sophomore record This Is It...[2008], one could only guess which direction her self-titled third record would go. Surprisingly, this album is probably one of her most straight forward projects yet. It once again features her stellar guitar playing b
ut everything on the album feels bigger sounding and more evolved. From the opening sonics in "For Ash" to all of the catchy call outs that carry on throughout the record, Marnie Stern makes sure that your first listen is memorable. The huge chorus and riff in "Building A Body" will shake your speakers, as Stern's vocals this time around sound more confident and have a very commanding front and center presence, compared to some of her earlier work. Marnie Stern is a record that truly balances Stern's guitar playing skills with her song structures and vocals that still retains eclectic walls of sound but never crosses an experimental line. This may disappoint some long time followers but given the record's 33 minute playing time and its capability to stick in your head, it speaks for itself, as Marnie Stern preps to expand her audience with another solid outing!Key Track: "Building A Body"
