Big Troubles: Romantic Comedy

Big Troubles
Romantic Comedy
Slumberland Records [2011]

Fire Note Says: Big Troubles will hook you with their smooth indie style on sophomore record Romantic Comedy.

Album Review:
New Jersey's Big Troubles leave the fuzzed production of their debut behind as their sophomore long player, Romantic Comedy, lets the band's soft indie pop shine while highlighting their songwriting. It is a growth that should be well received as this outing is confident, uncomplicated and catchy. The band successfully pieces together floating melodies with out of nowhere guitar work that gets highlighted on "Sad Girls" and "Minor Keys", where the later track rips into a Dinosaur Jr. type guitar solo that will definitely hook the listener. This pairing of song elements works throughout Romantic Comedy and grows more infectious after each spin. Romantic Comedy is not a perfect record, as some songs tread water using the blended pop style but with the help of producer Mitch Easter (R.E.M.), the new cleaner vibe ultimately works and offers many more highs than lows, as Big Troubles have found their niche and should only get stronger as a band moving forward.

Key Tracks: "She Smiles For Pictures", "Sad Girls", "Minor Keys"
