Black Box Revelation: My Perception

Black Box Revelation
My Perception
Merovee Records [2012]

Fire Note Says: Black Box Revelation bring their blues garage rock to the States on their US full length debut My Perception.

Album Review:
Black Box Revelation is the Brussels, Belgium duo of 22-year old Jan Paternoster and 20-year old Dries Van Dijck which have been playing together for almost a decade and have two previous guitar rock records to their credit in Europe with Set Your Head On Fire [2007] and Silver Threats [2010]. My Perception was out last year across seas but it is the bands US full length debut that was just released on June 12, 2012.

The record itself is very riff heavy and has an earlier Black Keys flavor to it that should appeal to a wide spread audience. First single "High On A Wire" has a dirty blues groove that sucks you in and instantly will make you take notice. The rest of My Perception follows suit and keeps the energy pulsing through each track. The record was produced by Alain Johanes (Queens Of The Stone Age, Chris Cornell) and clearly has his undertone of rock influence running in the background which plays perfectly off of singer Paternoster's slightly gruff drawled vocals.

My Perception is not a perfect record and does not stray too far away from its bluesy garage rock style which for some will be just fine but holds Black Box Revelation back a bit from hitting the next level. What is promising here is that Black Box Revelation are so young that this album clearly only scratches the surface of the bands capabilities. There is no reason that My Perception should not get some deserved attention here in the States and hopefully will set up a wide spread release for Black Box Revelation's next outing as I believe they are only going to get better!
